Okay, I know this may sound crazy, but I think I’m in love with my tech support! Chicago has been good to me, as far as IT support companies go, but I finally think I’ve hit the jackpot.

My IT outsourcing Chicago guy is nice, friendly and extremely knowledgeable in the information technology world. I never thought the combination was possible, but today I have been proven wrong.

Usually, when an IT company sends out a tech support guy, he is sort of anti-social, kind of arrogant and definitely lacking basic social skills. He will never look me in the eye or take the time to make sure that I understand what is going on with my computer.

What really frustrates me is that he uses all of this computer jargon that is way over my head and I have no idea what he’s talking about.

I’m completely confused the whole time, but I try not to show it too much, because it makes me feel stupid. So I continue to nod my head ‘yes’ with a puzzled look on my face.

But I never made much of a deal out of it because, after all, my computer problems were always fixed in the end.

Little did I know that I could have a tech support Chicago guy who fixes my computer problem and treats me like his equal! I know this sounds funny, but I always felt that some of those IT guys felt that I was inferior because I didn’t know what a hard drive was.

To my total surprise, my new tech support, born and raised in Chicago, is friendly, caring and super smart. Not only did he fix my computer problems, but he explained to me exactly what was wrong with my system, how he fixed it and how I can avoid the problems in the future.

Best of all is that he explained this in language that I could understand.

I’m sold. I will never use another tech support guy because I know that I will not find better than his services. Furthermore, he didn’t charge me until the service was completed and he got confirmation of my satisfaction.

The prices were so reasonable, too. Plus, he was pretty cute!

What does it actually mean when people say “IT support?” Chicago business owners are always talking about IT support and I always wonder the same things: does that have something to do with the “It Factor?” Is that what people mean when they say, “She’s got IT”? Bottom line, what does “IT” mean?

Okay, so now that I have done some research on the topic, I am ready to blog. IT, or information technology, is defined by the Information Technology Association of America as pretty much anything that has to do with computer programs and computer hardware that offers information.

More specifically, the development, design, study of or utilization of a computer or a program on a computer that delivers, stores or transmits information.

A computer can refer to any small electronic device such as a cell phone, television, laptop, etc.

So, why would anyone need IT outsourcing? Chicago, as you can imagine, is filled with small and large businesses and, guess what? I guarantee that each and every one of them is dependent on the existence of computers and certain programs.

I also guarantee that computers are not everyone’s strong point. Therefore, individuals and businesses need IT support. Chicagoans are lucky that there is a lot of competition in our area for IT services. This means that they get to be very choosey about who they hire. They don’t have to settle for sub-par customer service, nor do they have to settle for ridiculous prices.

A good IT support firm will be polite and break down technical jargon in simple terms that the average Joe Shmo, like me, can understand.

Hopefully the firm can assign you one technical expert that will stay without you throughout your business’ future, so every time you have a problem, he is already in the know as far as where you are, what you do and what type of a system you have.

I am a small business owner and, because I am not savvy by any means when it comes to computers, I needed an IT outsourcing Chicago company.

A friend of mine also owns a small business, but he hired a full-time IT guy to be on his staff. When he told me about the expenses he incurred, between salary, benefits and bonuses, I thought he was crazy! Why hire an IT guy for your staff, I asked, when you can simply outsource all your IT needs?

He told me that he simply likes having someone there when he needs him.

My mind was boggled.

I tried to explain to him that, nowadays, outsourcing to a tech support Chicago firm was the best way to go, as far as small businesses were concerned. So you like someone to be around exactly when you need him? No problem.

The firm I use, I said, answers the phone after the first couple rings, works with me to solve my computer problems and then, if the problem isn’t solved within fifteen minutes, my personal technician drives right out to me in less than an hour. He carefully answers all of my questions, updates my computer on a regular basis and tells me exactly the things I need to do and the things that I shouldn’t do to keep my computers running at top-notch.

My friend was shocked to hear that such service could come from an IT outsourcing Chicago firm. Chicago is not exactly known for customer service, after all. But I insisted that the IT expert was not only extremely knowledgeable, but he broke down the technical jargon into language that I could understand. He was patient and courteous and I couldn’t believe the time he took to ensure that I knew what was going on with my computers.

By the end of my conversation, I managed to get my friend to concede to the fact that outsourcing IT needs is the better and smarter financial decision for small businesses. Unfortunately, his hired IT guy had signed a two-year contract with him and my friend is stuck paying his salary and benefits for the time being.

But at least I got my point across to him.

I Don’t Need Computer Support that Sounds like German!

My favorite classic episodes of Saturday Night Live were the ones with the IT guy who was so snug and annoyingly cocky because he could fix everyone’s computer in the office and talk right over their heads with technical jargon. He made them feel like idiots!

Well, as it turns out, that scenario was hysterical on television, but when the same thing happened to me, it wasn’t so funny. Or at least I didn’t think so. So here’s my story.

I, of course, was looking for computer support. Chicago small businesses usually outsource their IT needs, since it is much less expensive than hiring your own IT team in-house.

I called a company and they said they would send one of their best IT outsourcing Chicago guys over to me. When the gentleman came out to my small business, he looked exactly like the IT guy from Saturday Night Live and I literally had to stop myself from laughing.

The bad part about the story was that the IT guy had the same annoyingly cocky attitude as the guy from SNL. I admit, computers are definitely not my thing, even though my carrier business couldn’t survive without them. But the way this guy was talking, I felt as if we were in two different countries, or planets for that matter.

He talked right over my head and paid absolutely no mind to the, “I’m completely puzzled expression,” on my face. I mean, it was like he knew I had no idea what he was talking about and he liked it that way. Although he fixed my computer problem, I walked away from this scenario with a sour taste in my mouth.

In my opinion, yes, computers are essential to operating a small business. But if I need to call in an IT expert every time I have a minor problem, I’m going to go broke. What I really need is a company that will send me a nice guy or girl who is an expert in computer support. Chicago small business owners really need someone who they can communicate with in everyday terms.

Please just explain to me, in simple and non-technical jargon, what my computer problem is, how you’re going to fix it and how I can avoid the problem again in the future.

This doesn’t sound like too complicated of a request. But then again, let’s see if those techie IT guys can understand my simple English.
